Course Overview:
The weekend will be packed with intermediate stone cutting instruction, beginning with a review of key concepts in gemstone faceting, followed by a deeper exploration of the types of materials used. Participants will gain insights into the significance of angles and proportions in creating a precisely faceted gem. Hands-on training will be conducted under the guidance of Ron Snelling, an experienced gemstone cutter with over 35 years of expertise, who is passionate about gemology and the intricacies of faceting. This course will build upon foundational skills and provide hands-on experience with a different type of stone, potentially quartz, garnet or synthetic corundum, allowing students to create a finished gemstone that showcases their growing expertise.
Participants will continue to utilize the Ultratec digital faceting machine, which is known for its precision and user-friendly interface. This advanced course will allow students to refine their skills, focusing on the nuances of cutting garnet or synthetic corundum. The digital features provide real-time feedback on cutting angles and facets, helping students master the techniques necessary for achieving a high-quality finish on their gemstones.

Optional design ideas: step cut of your choice, hexagon, Portuguese round brilliant.
By the end of the weekend, participants will leave with their very own finished gemstone—a tangible representation of their enhanced skills. This outcome serves as a source of pride and a stepping stone for further exploration in the field of gem cutting. Whether participants choose to continue their faceting journey as a hobby or pursue it as a professional pathway, this course provides an excellent opportunity for growth.
